The Brief

Slate50 is the reimagined creative studio from filmmaker Jay Clark, evolving from a personal brand into a full-service production studio. Jay approached us to lead a complete transformation—shifting his identity from solo director to team-driven storytelling studio. The goal was to build a brand that could attract agency partners, funders, and collaborators, while still preserving the independent, mission-driven spirit of his early work. We were tasked with developing a bold new name, identity, and visual system that would reflect Slate50’s cinematic roots and future-facing vision.

The Design Outcomes

The Slate50 identity was built around the idea of shared storytelling power—50% of the client’s vision, 50% of our creative execution. The name itself emerged from this philosophy: a “slate” as a nod to film production, and “50” representing the balance between lived experience and expert direction. It’s a declaration that every project begins with a clean slate, co-created with intention.

Visually, the brand leans into cinematic cues with a sharp, modernist wordmark and bold, editorial layouts built for motion. A flexible black-and-white foundation is accented with purposeful color, giving the brand space to evolve across decks, digital, and on-screen treatments. With Slate50, Jay Clark now leads a studio that feels expansive, structured, and rooted in collaboration—ready for agency partnerships, film development, and creative leadership at scale.
